This helpful reference covers the broad range of content found on the actual examinations, including disorders by body system, such as coronary artery disease, COPD, and diabetes. The product reviews signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, medical treatments, nursing assessments, and interventions for scores of health problems. Concise refreshers on wound care, perioperative nursing, collaborative practice, nursing research, and legal issues are also included. Review questions after each chapter and an end-of-book posttest help assess the nurse’s preparedness for the exam. The book is appropriate for exams of both major certifying bodies: the ANCC and the AMSN.

This is an excellent review book for the ANCC Medical-Surgical certification exam. I read through it once, and studied for about 4 weeks and passed. I would recommend this over the book sold by ANCC. Lippincott has a way of providing information in a clear and well organized fashion. The book is laid out by system, and has some very helpful tables. I’ve lent it to colleagues of mine that are taking the exam and they agree its a great book. If you want a cheaper high quality study guide, this is your go to.

This was an excellent review book and the only one that I used to study and passed the exam on the first try. I like the med-surg topic system by system review and relearned a lot of what I learned a long time ago in nursing school, with even further understanding this time! I think it could improve on having more information on Nursing theory/theorists (like Orem, Watson, etc.). I found information on all the major nursing theories and theorists on my own. Also, the book did not cover quality improvement process, terms and definitions as well as I would have liked. The sample test questions were spot on with the format of the test which I feel wants you to pick the BEST answer and does not always have the PERFECT answer. I would use this book again, but supplement with more quality improvement and nursing theory. Also, I would consider getting another book with more practice questions (I looked online for more practice and was able to find some free quizzes).

when I ordered this book, it was for the purpose of my keeping my wife study skills up to date for the hospital that she’s employed by. It seems, according to her, she’s finding that everything that’s needed from this date into the upcoming years, it’s all right in this book. For me, I consider this a great investment into the future. From what her facility has told her, they won’t be changing their standards within the next 5 years. On top of that, they’ve taken her book & created learning skills sheets for the rest of the staff. There’s mention that they’re going to suggest that all the employees that’s in that field, purchase this book for upcoming testing to keep skills current with the nursing board. Thanks again amazon. you really came through. I know where to search next time when there’s a need for nursing supplies

I bought this book in preparation for my CMSRN examination. It is VERY thorough. The questions in the back of each chapter help reinforce the content and the practice exam in the back helped me identify my week areas.

I will say that I was a bit worried after studying and taking the practice exam in the back. I didn’t do as well on the practice as I thought I should have after studying the book content but I have to admit that the vast amount of information made it hard to focus on the material sometimes. It’s like reading a textbook, which we all know can be difficult.

I supplemented this book with YouTube in some of the areas I was lacking and I’m happy to say I passed the exam on the first try.

I bought this book about a month before I went to sit for my certification test. This book makes it very easy to review med-surg topics. It outlines each topic with key points to make it easy to focus on the important key notes. Each chapter also has a review test at the end that is helpful and at the end of the book it has a overall comprehensive test that helps to see how ready you are to take the certification exam. This book was very helpful for me and I passed my certification the first time!

your experience in the hospital will make you pass the test. its very patient-centered and a lot of prioritization questions. I used cmsrn pocket prep when im working, lippincotts med surg nursing certification and mometrix med surg nurse exam secrets study guide. I literally crammed for the exam! I read lippincott haphhazardly studying topics I am not confident about and mometrix the day before. take all the practice tests coz the explanations (for the answers) gave me more study content. I passed. Good luck!!! 😀
