This unit is terrific. Just know that any single-hose portable AC exhausts its hot air outside, and for every cubic inch of expelled air, you need an equal amount of inbound fresh air or you’ve made your room into a nifty decompression chamber. That’s great if you get the bends a lot, but it sucks my cheeks in and makes me light headed and sleepy in my little well-insulated light-tight workshop in a hot Florida garage. Since I don’t want to draw in more hot garage air just to feed this AC, I also installed a passive air vent between a shared interior wall of the air conditioned house and my shop. This poppet valve vent can be closed as needed and contains bug screens. It acts like a snorkel on a sub, and provides just enough fresh air and equalization to counter the negative air pressure created by this throttling AC, and with no ill effects on the house HVAC system. And that keeps my personal oxygen engine humming, and cool and happy. This AC is Quiet, smooth running, it’s very effective and the front (vs top) vent arrangement was important for me since I’ve mounted it under a work counter and exhaust it from the rear thru a 6″ dryer vent out the exterior facing wall. Just leave room for fresh air to get in behind it so it will operate efficiently, or fashion an air intake near its rear end. Excellent build, choice and value.

Easy to assemble, does a good job cooling, and fairly quiet. Under 50dB, on low, from across the room, 63dB right above the machine. It is actually quieter than a 5000 BTU window unit bought locally at the same time.

But, the window adapter did not fit a standard 30” wide window! The plastic parts that slide to fit are ~26”, but the outflow port blocks ~10“ of the inner sliding section, so using only the outer piece only covers 26” of the 30” sill, while using both sections requires a 36” window width! The instruction manual only shows it fitting in a vertical position, and such windows may be common in Asian apartments, but are rare in American houses. However, the illustration on the product page shows an idealized cartoon of a horizontal installation. This could be better engineered and explained in the illustrations.

So I had to saw off part of the inner slide to fit. The parts for this could be better designed and sturdier, and weatherstripping should be included to get a better fit. I sealed it all with white duct tape to keep it in place, since no hardware or adhesive strips are included to anchor it to the sash and sill. And 1/4” gaps occur above and below the inner sliding section. Not as neat-looking as a proper hardware and weatherstrip install. Be prepared to re-engineer it to fit. YMMV.

Otherwise, it is functioning as expected so far. Overall satisfied, but (-1) star for poor design and lack of a more complete installation kit, as typically comes with in-the-window units! I realize it is meant to be “portable,” and not permanently attached to the window, so not (-2) stars, but still needs a rethought design to better fit standard windows.

This portable ac is a lifesaver. Regular fans do nothing in my small apartment. Temps hit 89 yesterday in the Seattle area and I was so glad I had the foresight to order this back in June when it was still in the 50’s. I knew from past summers that the heat was coming and it’s going to be very hot. Installation was easy and fast. I recommend watching some videos where people show you step by step how to do it. I placed mine on top of my nightstand because this way my bed is not in the way of the airflow and the whole bedroom cools down in minutes. It’s so powerful, it could freeze the nuts off a penguin. I was kind of surprised at how much water is draining out, it must be very humid here because that plastic 1 gallon bottle fills up with water after 4-5 hours of use. I’m going to get a big bucket so I will only need to empty it once a day. I’m very happy with this ac unit and I’ve noticed that just in my small building, 5 other apartments have this same type of ac installed. Hope we won’t crash the grid.

So we’ve had this for over a year now. I live in the southeastern United States, and we bought this to use with our generator in case the power goes out during tropical storms. Little did we know, we would be using it all the time. We have a two-story house, and our son lives upstairs over the garage. So it gets hot and is less insulated than the rest of the house. He asked if he could borrow the AC because he is a computer gamer and has a computer and two monitors in a smaller room, where he keeps the door closed. It was a hotbox in there. Instead of him messing with the thermostat and cooling the rest of the house unnecessarily (that gets expensive), we let him use this unit in his room to keep the temperature around 72°.

We love the fact that this has a remote, a thermostat where it shuts off if it reaches the desired temperature and turns on again when it’s time to cool, and we love the low noise hum when it is on. It’s so easy to set up, and very easy to transport (portable).

My parents air conditioner at their house went out in July, so I brought this unit over to them to use for about three days. They set it up in their room and basically lived out of their room until the HVAC company could fix their home unit. They loved it. Their primary bedroom is around 350 ft.² and it kept it ice cold. They also decided to plug it in downstairs in the family room and kitchen area, and believe it or not, this 8000 BTU unit kept the entire 1200 ft.² cool! I wouldn’t recommend cooling that much square footage, but in a pinch, this thing was cranking out cold air.

So now that my son is back off to college, the wife stole the unit from his room and put it into our primary bedroom. We can keep the rest of the house around 76°, and she loves keeping our room around 69°. She sleeps so much better now. Happy wife, happy life!
