Just does not work well

The sales hype sounds great.. but these things are awful.. none of the 3 sizes fit properly,.. they are uncomfortable when fitted, slip out during the night… waste of money, can’t be returned… breathe right nose strips work much better, are cheaper without snot everywhere..

I had high hopes for this as evidenced by its not being returnable. A complete waste of money. First, once inserted, it’s painful. No amount of angulation improved the comfort; neither did trying the various sizes. The pain causes the nose to run and you can’t blow your nose without the unit falling out. Application with either of the appliances or two fingers is tricky and time consuming. And it didn’t even do a great job improving the airway—one side with deviated septum, the other with collapse. A total bust; too bad.

it def opens up your front nasal passages. it is a little uncomfortable, but not hugely so. it can move around in your nose a little. I used it for about a week and then stopped. Not sure the benefit was worth the effort.
but if you have a deviated septum and can not breath thru your nose at all, it is def worth a try.

Hale is the best overall nasal dilator I have tried. I use this product primarily as a sleep aide for a deviated septum that affects my breathing during the night. Compared to MaxAir Nose Cones and Mute and some other cheaper versions I’ve tried over the past few years since my ENT recommended using nasal dilators. I have also experimented with wearing them while running and have found them to be quite effective.
Pros:
-Effectively opens up nostrils and improves breathing overnight
-Significantly reduces snoring and improved quality of sleep
-Less noticeable when in nose than other brands
-Only brand that consistently stays in nostrils overnight – compared to MaxAir which are more comfortable silicon but don’t remain in nostrils especially during allergy season
-Dilators last far longer than advertised – again compared to Mute and MaxAir which lose shape and efficacy after a handful of wears. Especially if primary use is for sleeping.
-Trial kit comes with a case and microfiber cloth
-Can be used for outdoor fitness, jogging etc. Less ridiculous looking that other comparable brands.
-Price is reasonable and readily available on Prime shipping
Cons:
-Biggest drawback to Hale is the initial comfort – there is a ‘break in’ period. It will take a few days for your nose to adjust. Squeeze them a bit before wearing to help with this.
-Confusing instructions on how to insert them: TBH, I’ve worn a bunch of nose cones and I skipped the tutorial. Just use your fingers to shove them in there. The trial kit comes with a tool that you can use, but it’s wholly unnecessary and adds to the confusion.
-These will not help you with allergies or more serious conditions like sleep apnea. For that you will want to talk to a qualified medial person. Based on a number of reviews it looks like people were expecting these to cure them of more serious ailments.

I read a bunch of reviews of nasal dilators on this product as well as several others before deciding to buy something, and I chose this one because it was designed by doctors. I believe this to be both true, and worthwhile.
Generally, the reason this product has a 3 star rating is because it is uncomfortable to wear. I 100% understand this point of view – the little clasp shaped object that acts as the dilator is made from hard plastic, with the side of the device that touches the inside of your nose being coated in a layer of rubber. The edge of the rubber doesn’t completely cover the edge of the hard plastic, so if the device is too large for your nose, or if you squish and scrunch up your nose while sleeping, it can be, at the very best, uncomfortable, and, at the very worst, quite painful.
That said, I think it is worth trying. I sleep on my stomach, and the first couple nights I used it, it was a bit uncomfortable, bordering on painful. However, after a few days, I seem to have acclimated to it, and it is no longer noticeably uncomfortable. If you sleep on your back, you might not feel any discomfort at all.
The biggest annoyance beyond comfort is that it can be confusing trying to get the dilator into your nose correctly. I realized a few days in that the “top” of the object is the side of the rubber band that has a little dimple on it. So you want to put it in your nose with the dimple on the clear rubber band pointing outward.
All of that out of the way, the dilator itself works great. I have aggressively annoying sinuses that close up for absolutely no reason constantly, and while this can’t pry them open, it helps to at least keep one of my nostrils always open so I can breathe while I sleep. For the past few months, my sleep quality had been declining to the point where I was lucky to get 6 hours at night, and sometimes my sinuses would close and I just simply didn’t get to sleep. Finally, with this dilator, I have returned to a sleep pattern approaching normal.
Being able to sleep is honestly worth the discomfort, is what I’m trying to say. The dilator itself works exactly the way it is intended, stays firmly in the nose, and improves the length and quality of sleep.
If you have found that nasal strips aren’t strong enough to keep your nose open (or if you can’t wear them because your skin is too oily, like me), this device will be.
